Calanthes are terrestrial orchids, meaning that the bottom part of their roots need to be in humus rich soil. In nature some grow on eroding cliffs. In cultivation the top half of the pot should be full of bark mixture and the bottom half of soil. Calanthes are deciduous (leafless) before they bloom. This is not a sign of poor health. In fact this is the best time to ship. At the end of the Fall season plants need to be left outside until the temperatures approach freezing and watering needs to be reduced. If this is not done you will end up with beautiful plants that never bloom. This species is more rare in cultivation. Our plants started blooming in January 2020
