Krum Sotirov is internationally recognized orchid expert known for his lectures on orchid care, presented before orchid societies and garden clubs in the US and Canada. What is in bloom in June 2021

This year the weather is equatorial like – hot mornings with heavy rain in the afternoon. The high humidity made everything look fresh and tasty.

What is in bloom in December 2020

This year was very warm, not only in the records of the meteorologists. We felt it too. We had cloudy days with high air humidity. More orchids are spiking to bloom, but there are still a few plants opening yet.

Zelemnia midas – many plants in bloom and spike
Cattleya Ann Joi and Cattleya Anne Banmore are blooming and spiking
Holcoglossum – more flower spikes, but I expect them to bloom in a month
Laelia rubescens x Broughtonia negrilensis many flower spikes
Paphiopedilum exul
Dendrobium Hibiki – the first plant opened and is very nice
Paphiopedilum Maudiae is spiking
Nearly all Phalaenopsis are in spike, no blooms yet.
Bulbophylum Sheryl Kurizaki – many plants with many blooms each
Bulbophyllum auratum

Orchid sale at Bulgarian Orchid Society meeting

We will bring orchid plants for sale in bud and others to the meeting of the orchid society on the 8th February 2020, 18:30 at Art Salon of Radio Varna. The orchids are specimen plants of high quality. They will be available for general public, but th emembers ofthe society will enjoy a discount. Chinese immortality medicines

Chinese are some of the first to discover and cultivate orchids. One of the first orchid depicted on pottery and praised in the poetry is Dendrobium moniligorme Tie pi Shi hu. Even today in China people drink the dried pseudobulbs and the flowers ot this orchid in a form of a tea for longevity and rejuvenation. Together with Dendrobium nobile (Shi hu) it is one of the nine herbs of immortality. The other herbs are:
